Slides from my section of the group project presentation and personal reflection.

The plan was to have the other group members sections and the video of our components brought together, forming a 5 minute video which would include details such as unique selling points, competitors, and how products would perform on the market. The video would start looking as though it was selling a completely normal bag, and with each section it would devolve into a more abstract idea of a bag which represented the overarching theme of consumerism and capitalism. We did this as nobody in our group felt comfortable with speaking in front of others, and we believed we could place all of the information into our video by assigning tasks to each of us individually and then bringing the work together to be filmed . As this did not end up working out, I have decided to treat my section as an individual thing and I have done research accordingly.

When looking for companies and products that market themselves as dishonest, I was unfortunately unable to find any. This is very good news for me as a consumer, but bad news for this research that I am trying to get done. The unique selling point of my product is that it is unlike anything you have ever seen before. Uniqueness is what customers look for in things they are going to invest in, people like feeling as though they are investing in something that is going to take the world by storm. People also need to be reassured, and companies who tell customers that they will support and care for them are chosen over those who do not offer such service.

A strong visual identity is important to a product so that customers remember it and associate certain colours, fonts and words with it, subconsciously reminding them of your product throughout their day, without you needing to do anything. I chose a colour scheme which is happy and typography which are bold and simple, continuing the theme throughout the video. This contrast between the happy colours, music and the direction that the video goes in goes to show how important a visual identity is to new brands, as multiple people who have seen my video have expressed interest in being chosen by the bag, something which I believe they would not say if the video was set to a different tone using different colours and music.

I have always been fascinated with marketing techniques, and one of my favourite books on the subject is 'No Logo' by Naomi Klein which provides insight into many of the tactics that companies employ to subconsciously influence us into buying their products.

Fortunately, some of the group members, Hannah, Grace and Jemma managed to get their sections together in time for the second opportunity to show the presentation. I really like what the end presentation looked like, with the combination of bags starting to come together.
